Dr. Lauren Welter—licensed psychologist and owner of Prairie Home Wellness and Counseling—discusses the mental health needs of individuals who live in rural areas. Specifically, Dr. Welter talks through considerations for providing mental health support to farmers and ranchers.
Dr. Welter is a licensed psychologist and the owner of Prairie Home Wellness and Counseling in rural Iowa. Lauren grew up in Iowa and briefly became a Wall Street investment banker before returning to the state and becoming a psychologist and farmwife. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa’s Counseling Psychology program and completed her internship at the Iowa City Veterans Affairs hospital. She particularly enjoys working with survivors of all types of trauma. On the personal side, she has four young children she is usually chasing after, and enjoys running, yoga, and coffee and dinner dates with friends when she can.

Samuel Lustgarten, PhD, is a licensed psychologist and member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. Over the last seven years, he has worked to examine the intersections between technology and psychology, publishing articles in American Psychologist, Professional Psychology: Research and Practice, and Clinical Psychology: Science and Practice. Dr. Lustgarten continues to work closely with clients and associates in practice and advocate for training needs when implementing telepsychology. Now in private practice, Sam works with clients in the Madison, WI area. As a professional consultant for the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, he facilitates connection with current and future Associates, along with hosting The Clinical Consult podcast.
