Psychologists whose practices are affected by the coronavirus may be tempted to use telepsychology as an alternative to in-person sessions, but they need the skills to provide it ethically and effectively. Dr. Mary Alvord discusses the issue with a focus on telehealth via video conferencing during the coronavirus outbreak.
Mary K. Alvord, PhD, is a psychologist with more than 35 years of clinical experience and is director of Alvord, Baker & Associates, LLC in Maryland. She is past president of the APA Division Society for Media Psychology and Technology (2013), and has been active in promoting telehealth in her group practice and through workshops. She recently founded a non-profit, Resilience Across Borders, Inc., with a mission to promote mental health and reduce barriers. She is co-author of Conquer Negative Thinking for Teens, Resilience-Builder Program, and digital recordings on relaxation and wellness.
