Deborah Warner, PhD, receives National Award for Excellence

The National Register of Health Service Psychologists Board of Directors today announced the presentation of the Alfred M. Wellner Distinguished Career Award to Deborah Warner, PhD, of Littleton, NH.

Named for the National Register’s first Executive Officer, Alfred M. Wellner, PhD, this award honors an individual for their significant contributions to psychology over a distinguished career.

With more than three decades of clinical experience, Dr. Warner is an advocate for patient privacy and was instrumental in challenging the unwarranted search and seizure of patient personal records by the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office. Her courage and persistence helped secure a formal legislative resolution, which was passed unanimously by the NH House and Senate and and become law in 2013. Dr. Warner was also instrumental in the successful effort to create an independent licensing Board for psychologists in New Hampshire.

Several colleagues submitted letters in support of Dr. Warner’s award nomination. NH Representative Neal Kurk wrote, “Dr. Warner was without doubt the single most helpful and effective individual in the legislative process. She was exceptionally knowledgeable with respect to the subject matter, and was totally dedicated to the issue. There could be no more effective advocate for patient privacy rights than Dr. Warner.”

Upon notification of the award, Dr. Warner wrote, “I would like to thank Dr. Hall and the board of the National Register for this very fine honor of the Wellner career achievement award. I am thrilled.”

Dr. Warner received her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, and interned at the University of Rochester Medical School in New York. After years of clinical practice, she combined her passion for building projects with her family therapy background to create Renovation Psychology, which applies psychological concepts to strengthen relationships and teamwork for improved domestic harmony. Dr. Warner consults with home owners and builders internationally and also maintains a clinical practice in Littleton, NH.

Dr. Warner has been credentialed by the National Register since 1990.
