The National Register of Health Service Psychologists Board of Directors today announced the presentation of the Alfred M. Wellner Distinguished Career Award to Roger P. Greenberg, PhD, of Syracuse, NY.

Named for the National Register’s first Executive Officer, Alfred M. Wellner, PhD, this award honors an individual for their significant contributions to psychology over a distinguished career.

Dr. Greenberg is a Distinguished Professor at State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University, where he has served as a mentor, teacher, and clinical supervisor to hundreds of psychology trainees, psychiatric residents, and medical students. For more than 35 years Dr. Greenberg has assessed programs and student performance, serving as a site visitor for accreditation of psychology training programs.

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Greenberg said, “It was wonderful to receive the news of my selection for the National Register Alfred B. Wellner Distinguished Career Award. The acknowledgment of my efforts in the field means a great deal to me. It is particularly remarkable that my work – which has given me such joy – can also be viewed in such a positive way by my colleagues.”

In his nomination letter, Mantosh Dewan, MD, praised his former supervisor and current colleague, “As someone who had the privilege of being supervised by him during my residency, I can personally attest to the mastery of his supervisory technique and unique contributions to the educational process.”

Dr. Greenberg received his PhD from Syracuse University and completed his internship at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Syracuse, NY. In addition to publishing more than 250 highly influential articles, books, and presentations, he co-authored “The Scientific Credibility of Freud’s Theories and Therapies,” which was selected as one of the ten best books in behavioral sciences by the National Library Association and Psychology Today.

Dr. Greenberg has been credentialed by the National Register since 1975.

About The National Register

The National Register is the largest credentialing organization for psychologists. The independent, non-profit organization was created in 1974 with the help of the American Psychological Association and the American Board of Professional Psychology. Today, the National Register is the leading source of information on nationally credentialed psychologists in health care. Psychologists who are awarded national registrant status have achieved the highest educational and professional standards in health care. Early career psychologists can accumulate the necessary credentials during their training so that when they apply for a license to practice, they also are ready to become registrants of the National Register. It is the only independent, credentialing body with a national level standard for verifying education and training qualifications, licensing, and ethical standards with more than 11,000 doctoral level psychologists in its database. The National Register is relied upon by the health care industry, state and provincial licensing boards, and consumers. National Register also provides this valuable information to consumers as a free referral service to top quality psychologists at www.findapsychologist.org.
