At its December meeting, the National Register Board of Directors elected Terry S. Gock, PhD, MPA, of Rosemead, CA, to a four-year term beginning January 1, 2019.
In response to his election, Dr. Gock said, “Psychologists have a wealth of knowledge and expertise in health service provision from prevention to treatment. I look forward to working with the Board to meet our organizational mission of enhancing, promoting, and educating the public of the value-added role of psychologists in health service delivery.”
Sarah F. Shelton, PsyD, Chair of the National Register’s Nominating Committee, commented on the selection process. “This year we received an overwhelming number of applications from many highly qualified individuals. The Board congratulates the three newly elected members. They were chosen not only for their impressive accomplishments and contributions to the field of psychology but also because of the unique skill sets and talents they will each bring to the composition of the Board. The Board of Directors looks forward to collaborating with these newly elected members in order to optimally serve the organization.”
Terry S. Gock, PhD, MPA, is the Divisional Director of Pacific Clinics’ Asian Pacific Family Center, which serves the Asian-American and Pacific Islander populations in the San Gabriel Valley by providing behavioral healthcare programs in mental health, substance abuse prevention, child abuse prevention, gang and violence prevention, mentoring, family life enhancement, and other related human services. For the past 30+ years, he has also worked as an organizational consultant, as well as a clinical and forensic psychologist, in private practice. He previously served as Acting Program Director for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and as staff psychologist at the Pasadena Child Guidance Clinic (now Pacific Clinics). He also previously served as a Board Member on the Board of Directors at the National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association.
Dr. Gock has served in numerous roles for the American Psychological Association, including as member on the Council of Representatives, Chair of both the Board for the Advancement of Psychology in Public Interest and the Board of Professional Affairs as well as the President of the now Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity. He currently serves as the Consulting Editor for APA’s Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity and recently presented a symposium at the APA Annual Convention in San Francisco, CA. In 2011, Dr. Gock was the recipient of the APA Presidential Citation for “devotion to multiculturalism” in psychology and for “lifelong concern for the well-being of marginalized people, and for the promotion of a diversification of psychology.”
Dr. Gock has been credentialed by the National Register since 1983.
