The National Register of Health Service Psychologists is proud to present the 2025 Judy E. Hall Early Career Psychologist Award to Dr. Hjalmar Zambrana-Bonaparte.

This award, named in honor of the National Register’s second Executive Officer, is presented annually to a National Register credentialed psychologist with fewer than 10 years of postdoctoral experience.

The National Register’s Awards Committee honors the recipient of this award with a $5,000 stipend based on contributions to foster innovation in psychological practice, strengthen community well-being, advance advocacy efforts, or enhance the contributions of professional associations in health care.

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Zambrana-Bonaparte said, “It is an honor to receive the Judy E. Hall Early Career Psychologist Award, named after an internationally recognized leader in professional practice, ethics, and education in psychology. This recognition is deeply meaningful to me as it reflects the values I strive to uphold in my work. The funding associated with this award will not only advance my ongoing and future research on professional issues, psychological assessment, and culturally responsive practices, but, most importantly, will help support graduate students from both the United States and Puerto Rico in developing their research skills and expanding their opportunities for learning, mentorship, and professional connection.”

Hjalmar Zambrana-Bonaparte, PsyD, is a clinical neuropsychologist at Cambridge Health Alliance and an Instructor in Psychology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He provides neuropsychological evaluations in English and Spanish and collaborates with medical interpreters to serve patients in over ten languages. In addition to his clinical work, he supervises postdoctoral fellows, teaches multicultural neuropsychology in academic and international settings, and mentors minority trainees pursuing careers in neuropsychology. Alongside colleagues and students, he engages in community outreach to promote brain health among underserved populations.

Dr. Zambrana-Bonaparte also maintains a private forensic practice specializing in evaluations of bilingual and Spanish-speaking individuals in civil and criminal cases. Together with esteemed colleagues, his current research focuses on literacy skills among immigrants and the development of normative data for teleneuropsychological assessment in Spanish-speaking adults.

He has received the Early Career Tony Wong Diversity Award from the National Academy of Neuropsychology and the Mentorship in Cultural Neuropsychology Award from the Hispanic Neuropsychological Society. He currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Iberoamericana de Neuropsicología, a journal dedicated to elevating diverse perspectives across Ibero-America through bilingual publication in English and Spanish.
