Thank you to everyone who has made a donation! The American Psychological Foundation (APF) and the National Register of Health Service Psychologists congratulate the recipients of two $10,000 grants to fund new internship positions through the Internship Partnership Fund.

About the Internship Partnership Fund

The Internship Partnership Fund is a collaborative effort with the American Psychological Foundation and was created with a founding gift of $100,000 from the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. According to the National Register's Executive Officer, Morgan T. Sammons, PhD, ABPP, "The National Register and its Board chose to make this contribution because we recognize that solving the internship gap is crucial to integrating more psychologists into the healthcare delivery system."

In 2015, there were more students seeking placement at accredited internship sites than there were positions available. Due to this gap, some students placed in unaccredited positions, an action that can have long-term drawbacks when seeking employment opportunities with the VA and other government agencies, and can create barriers to licensure in some jurisdictions. The Internship Partnership Fund allows the National Register to partner with APA- and CPA-accredited internship sites to defray the cost of new internship placements, thereby helping to close the internship gap.

By focusing on sites that have already achieved accreditation, we can directly and quickly fund new internship positions. Since funding is generally the rate-limiting step in opening more training slots, we elected to pursue this avenue. We believe that the Internship Partnership Fund can provide partial funding to make more positions available in the short term, and those positions have the potential to "stick" in the long term.
- Morgan T. Sammons, PhD, ABPP, Executive Officer

Consistent with the mission and values of the National Register, this initiative will focus on underserved areas and sites that train psychologists in the delivery of services in integrated healthcare settings.
