The Orlando VA medical Center (OVAMC) is in search of a rehabilitation psychologist with the primary role as embedded within the Cardiology service.

Duties would include provision of health and behavior assessment and individual and group intervention. The position requires program development and is best served by a licensed psychologist with rehabilitation psychology  background. Our population of 106,000 veterans are served by the new Orlando  VA Medical Center,  a state-of-the-art outpatient and 134 bed inpatient facility, with 40 MH beds, 116 residential beds and an active training program.  It is located in Orlando’s “Medical City” at Lake Nona.

“Medical City” is a carefully planned and executed 650-acre health and life science park that includes important partners such as the University of Central Florida College of Medicine (UCF-COM) and Health Sciences Campus,  Nemours Children’s Hospital, the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute,  University of Florida Academic and Research Center, and the Florida Blue Innovation Center and National VA Simulation Center.  These partners have joined the OVAMC to create a new medical destination and intellectual hub for research, education, and patient care. This rapidly expanding family friendly community is adjacent to golf courses, lakes, bike trails and in close proximity to theme parks and ocean beaches.  For a city of this size,  the lifestyle opportunities are surprising. We have staff who live in high-rise condos in the center of downtown and on acreage out in the country.

We have even had a few dedicated surfers who drive in from the beach each day. The Orlando VA Medical Center is also one of the Top 100 Companies in Central Florida for working families.  Local schools are good.

Psychologists are expected to participate in the education of psychology externs, interns and fellows, UCF-COM medical students, and students from other affiliated training programs and would have the opportunity to seek a  faculty appointment with the UCF-COM.  Practice with any valid state license  and receive a robust benefit package that includes, and great health benefits.

Interested candidates may send their CVs directly to Valerie Masten Hoese,  Ph.D., Medical Psychology program manager, Valerie.hoese@va.gov.
