and Center for Weight and Eating Disorders

The Center for Human Appearance (CHA) at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, in conjunction with the Department of Psychiatry’s Center for Weight and Eating Disorders, is seeking a full-time postdoctoral psychology fellow. The CHA, founded in 1987, is comprised of 6 medical/surgical specialties, including Psychology, each having a dominant interest in furthering understanding and treatment in all aspects of problems and concerns about appearance.  The mission is Research and Education to assist children and adults in achieving normal to ideal normal appearance through medical, surgical, and psychological measures. This may include eradication of disease, reconstruction of deformities, or cosmetic changes.  The Center’s goal is rehabilitation and enhancement of body and mind.

 Candidates should have a doctoral degree in clinical or health psychology and significant research experience, as revealed by publication in areas related to human appearance, body image, or psychosocial function. This is a research-oriented position that will provide postdoctoral fellows an opportunity for clinical practice and supervision for licensure. Clinical care will be provided to patients at CHA, as well as to those at the Center for Weight and Eating Disorders (CWED), which provides treatments for obesity, eating disorders, and associated psychological problems. The candidate will work closely with: Linton Whittaker, M.D., CHA’s founder; Thomas A.  Wadden, Ph.D., Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at CWED; and David B. Sarwer, Ph.D., Adjunct Professor of Psychology in Surgery. The candidate will spend four days a week at CHA and one at CWED.
