Postdoctoral Fellow in Psychology: We have an opening for the 2018/2019 training year, with a start date in September 2018. We are looking for candidates with strong clinical and interpersonal skills to train in our substance use outpatient clinic, The Drug Abuse Evaluation Health and Referral Services (DAEHRS) at Zucker Hillside Hospital. This service consists of providing personalized treatment in a comprehensive outpatient treatment program to community members whose lives have been impacted by alcohol and drug use problems and mental health issues. Clients and their families receive treatment from an experienced, caring, multidisciplinary team consisting of psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers.
Candidates must have completed the doctorate in clinical or counseling and be eligible for the New York State Limited Permit in Psychology. This is a unique opportunity for a postdoctoral fellow who would like to enhance their clinical training by treating individuals who use alcohol and/or drugs from a harm reduction perspective and with the utilization of various treatment modalities, including Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Mindfulness therapies.
Clinical duties include individual and group therapy conducted under supervision. Psychological assessments, crisis intervention, behavioral planning, and inter-disciplinary treatment planning will also be emphasized during the year. Strong consideration will be given to those with prior substance use and Dialectical Behavior Therapy experiences. The postdoctoral fellow will play a major role in our DBT track and will also have an opportunity to provide treatment to significant others experiencing adverse effects of a close relationship with an individual who is using substances. The ability to work with different disciplines as well as creativity and flexibility in difficult clinical situations will be valued in selecting applicants. Responsibilities and supervision will fulfill criteria for the postdoctoral year of experience necessary for New York State Psychology licensure. This postdoctoral fellowship is not APA accredited at this time.
The position includes an annual salary of $37,500 and a generous benefits package which is in place at the beginning of the fellowship year. Groups historically under-represented in Psychology are encouraged to apply. Candidates defending their dissertations in the early fall of 2018 will be considered for the opening. Please submit cover letter, resume, copy of student transcript, and two recommendation letters.
