Postdoctoral Fellowship for Goal-Oriented Psychotherapy with High Functioning Adults

Carmichael Psychology, PLLC offering Postdoc for a pre-license psychologist who is seeking licensing hours in a sophisticated private practice environment that will prepare them for work with high functioning clientele. This position is a rare opportunity to work with extremely high functioning clientele under an expert clinical psychologist in a private practice setting. This position includes one hour of weekly face-to-face supervision with Dr. Chloe Carmichael, PhD. In addition to building a thriving private practice on Park Avenue in New York City, Dr. Carmichael is featured regularly on national television as an expert psychologist; she also provides corporate consulting services and offers an online anxiety management program used globally.

The ideal candidate has a successful academic history and a strong background in cognitive behavioral therapy, as well as a clear understanding of psychodynamic approaches to therapy. Candidate must hold PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited Clinical Psychology program or Counseling Psychology program. Candidate should be comfortable or at least very interested in working with high functioning, goal driven clientele in a business-casual office environment.

In addition to one hour of face-to-face supervision with Dr. Carmichael, candidate will work closely with Dr. Carmichael throughout the week as she assigns new cases and is available to discuss cases additionally as needed. Candidate will also join monthly case conference and monthly staff meetings, as well as take turns presenting at case conferences with the other therapists currently on staff.

During the course of this yearlong engagement, candidate will develop or refine skills in the following areas:

  • Mindfulness and other meditative techniques that are useful and popular in psychotherapy
  • CBT for anxiety and personal or professional goals
  • How to engage and work effectively with high functioning people
  • Helping white-collar professionals with career issues
  • Dating and relationships for high functioning people (cases will include singles trying to find a partner, or semi-committed singles trying to decide if they should remain in a pre-marital relationship; limited or no married couples)
  • Short term therapy
  • Coaching

The candidate will also be given ample opportunity to explore and define their own career goals and professional identity so they can leave the yearlong position feeling supported and clear about their next steps.

Yearlong position requires 40 hours per week on a regular schedule. The actual days and hours selected for schedule are negotiable, but Mondays are required. Candidate will see approximately 27 clients per week. Balance of time will be spent on supervision or supervision-related activities, attending or preparing to present at case conference, staff meetings, writing notes or reports, and helping with other activities to support the practice.

Full medical health insurance included. Dental and vision plan optional. Two weeks paid vacation, plus 3 paid conference or exam days and 5 paid sick days are also included.
