On June 30, the Legal Action Center published a guide to the new Federal Parity Law, which increases equity of access for mental health and addiction insurance coverage. The guide is directed at insurance subscribers in New York State but contains procedures useful to consumers across the United States.

Contained in the guide is a summary and explanation of the law in lay terms. In other sections, it provides suggestions and examples of how to proceed when insurance companies deny or limit coverage for mental health and addiction care.

The guide also helps elucidate what coverage options are available for mental health and highlights indicators of insurance companies' non-compliance with the law.
