Consultation-Liaison Health Psychologist positions (3) available at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.

Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH) is seeking three Health Psychologists to join our Consultation-Liaison team of 5 Health Psychologists and 6 Psychology Clinical Health Residents. JMH is a 1500 bed acute care medical hospital that is part of an integrated Health System serving the needs of residents of Miami-Dade County in Florida.  JMH is also a teaching hospital of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. The Department of Psychology employs 18 credentialed Psychologists, 10 Psychology Residents, and 10 pre-doctoral interns (APA-Accredited Program)

The Health Psychology Consultation & Liaison Service provides the full range of activities required of a medical/consultation liaison psychologist. CL Psychologists collaborate with CL Psychiatry and medical teams to enhance the overall management and treatment of medically and/or psychiatrically compromised patients. Psychological consultation may be requested for a number of concerns. Some of these include: pre-existing psychiatric issues, current illness-related distress, wide-ranging adjustment issues, behavioral management strategies, poor adherence to treatment, and to address capacity issues to provide informed consent and/or clearance for hospital discharge. The team regularly provides pre-Bariatric evaluations, pre- and post-transplant evaluations and clearance for surgery consultations.

CL Psychologists assess and evaluate relevant biological and psychosocial findings related to medical issues, assess biopsychosocial risk factors for the development of physical illness, injury or disability, and gain a comprehensive understanding of the inextricably related aspects of health and illness to psychological, personality, and behavioral factors. CL Psychologists identify targets of assessment and intervention with medically-compromised patients, implement empirically supported health promotion and prevention interventions, render diagnoses, utilize evidence-based practices to address cognitive, behavioral, and treatment-compromising symptoms, inform medical treatment and discharge planning, provide psychoeducation, and provide emotional support to patients and families. The CL Psychologist articulates recommendations and writes reports and progress notes geared for medical colleagues, to assist in the management of their patients.

Each of the five licensed psychologists takes a leading role in at least one anchor service (Transplant, Trauma, Oncology/Palliative Care, Cardiac/Renal, and General Hospitalist.) Each Psychologist is assigned a Resident and a psychology practicum student to function as a team in delivering services, rounding, teaching, and providing some limited outpatient testing and psychotherapy services.  The CL Team is housed in Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital and provide outpatient services in the Center for Behavioral Medicine.

Currently we are seeking two early career psychologists with CL experience in general medical settings and/or experience with Trauma or Transplant. We are also seeking a more experienced psychologist to take a leading position with Trauma or Transplant.

Applicants must be licensed in the state of Florida and go through a physician level credentialing process.  Applications may be made on-line at  Please send CV and letter of interest to Thomas Robertson, Psy.D.
