Purpose & Qualifications:
The Department of Counseling Psychology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. An earned doctorate in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program is required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in undergraduate or graduate-level teaching. The successful candidate must be clinically licensed, possess strong clinical skills and experience (three or more years preferred), and have a successful history of and future plan for published research. Research area should be clinically relevant, with preference given to candidates focusing on psychotherapy process research. Theoretical orientation is open, but preference is for depth-based theories such as existential, humanistic, process experiential, or psychodynamic. The department possesses a strong commitment to diversity and multiculturalism. As such, the successful candidate will possess a demonstrable commitment to multicultural competence and social justice, preferably with experience in diverse and underserved communities.

Teaching Responsibilities:
The department prepares masters-level practitioners in Counseling Psychology and Marriage and Family Therapy with optional emphases in Correctional Psychology, Latino Counseling, LGBT Counseling, and Health Psychology. Though somewhat flexible, preference will be given to candidates capable of teaching basic and advanced graduate-level courses in clinical application (e.g., Counseling Process & Skills, Clinical Assessment, and Psychology of Relationships). Tenure-track faculty members in the department are also invited to teach an advanced elective of their own preference and design. The normal teaching load is 2 courses per quarter (Fall, Winter, and Spring). There is also an option for Summer teaching, which is in addition to the faculty member’s regular salary.
