Director of the True Blue Neighbors Behavioral Health Clinic and Applied Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology
The Department of Psychology at The University of Tulsa invites applications for a 12-month position as Director of the True Blue Neighbors Behavioral Health Clinic (TBNBHC) and Applied Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology, commencing July 1, 2017.
Since the Clinical Psychology program, accredited by APA since 1991, follows a scientist-practitioner model, applicants must have a doctorate in clinical psychology (Ph.D. preferred) from an APA accredited program and be licensed, or license eligible, as a psychologist in Oklahoma and eligible for Health Services Provider status. A minimum of at least one year of clinical experience at the postdoctoral level is expected. The position requires a high level of clinical judgment, complex problem solving skills, and outstanding communication skills.
Applicants are expected to have a demonstrated appreciation of psychology as a science and an ability to incorporate a scientific focus and research perspective into clinical practice and any courses taught. Applicants must have demonstrated experience and commitment promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment. Preference will be given to candidates with experience training graduate students; providing clinical supervision; and teaching at the university level, and/or with bilingual skills, especially Spanish, as the neighborhood surrounding the University is predominantly Latino.
The TBNBHC, which is funded by a foundation grant, has been operating for two years. It is the training clinic for the Department’s Ph.D. and M.A. programs in Clinical Psychology and provides services to adults and children in Tulsa, with a specific focus on those in the neighborhood surrounding the University. The Clinic employs two half-time graduate assistants and one full-time administrative staff person.
In addition to teaching in the Department of Psychology, the successful applicant will provide the following clinical duties: train students in the evidence-based practice of clinical psychology, supervise clinic students in the evidence-based practice of clinical psychology, and supervise clinic students while forming and maintaining relationships with local referral sources. The Director will also provide administrative oversight and leadership to the clinic and will serve as part of the Clinical Program Committee to ensure that graduate student educational and training goals are met in accordance with APA accreditation criteria. The Director will serve on the annual clinical oral exam committee.
