The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC, is inviting applications for an Adult Clinical Health Psychologist. 

This is a full-time position primarily based at Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital), a 900+ bed Level I trauma academic medical center serving more than 1.4 million people across 29 counties. The successful candidate will work within the integrated psychology/psychiatry consultation liaison team providing a broad range of health psychology interventions at the bedside to a diverse acute patient population. This individual will also provide consultation to medical treatment teams across the medical center. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the position offers opportunity for teaching psychology interns and practicum students, as well as psychiatry residents and medical student learners. The pursuit of scholarly work is encouraged with specific opportunities for quality improvement, implementation science, patient outcomes and teaching-based work. We are particularly interested in candidates that have previous experience or expertise in psycho-oncology, trauma, or geriatrics. Interests in health disparities or rural health also would be an excellent fit. Outside of the hospital setting, some outpatient work in health psychology in the candidate’s area of expertise also may be available.

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine is a national leader in rural mental health. The department is currently the home of the N. C. Statewide Telepsychiatry Program (NC-STeP) which connects more than 80 hospital emergency departments across the state.  Our outpatient clinic provides a broad range of comprehensive services and includes our health psychology service that offers pre-surgical psychological evaluations and other specialty behavioral health services.  In addition, our 52-bed inpatient Behavioral Health Unit houses acute beds, combined MI-ID beds, and combined Med-Psych beds. We have a vibrant psychiatry residency program, as well as a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship training program.
