Dr.
O'Callaghan was nominated for this award by Melinda
Fitting, Ph.D., who wrote that, "As Chairperson
of the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychology,
Dr. O'Callaghan is tireless in her efforts to improve
the Board and follow its mission to protect consumers.
These commitments of hers have been over the past
twenty-five years and demonstrate her unbelievable
dedication to the profession of psychology."
Dr.
Fitting's nomination was seconded by Peter J. Fagan,
Ph.D., who is Director of Research and Clinical
Outcomes at Johns Hopkins HealthCare LLC, and Associate
Professor of Medical Psychology at Johns Hopkins
School of Medicine. Dr. Fagan wrote in his nomination
letter that, "The Wellner Award would be a
fitting tribute for the service she has rendered
as a psychologist to the public, to her patients
and to her profession. Similarly, Dr. O'Callaghan
would be a fitting model of what the Wellner Award
exemplifies."
Some
of Dr. O'Callaghan's many contributions to psychology
include her past presidency of the Maryland Psychological
Association and her work as Chair of the Maryland
Board of Examiners for Psychologists. She continues
to mentor young psychologists while serving clients
in her own successful practice.
About
The National Register
The
National Register is the largest credentialing organization
for psychologists. The independent, non-profit organization
was created in 1974 with the help of the American
Psychological Association and the American Board
of Professional Psychology. Today, the National
Register is the leading source of information on
nationally credentialed psychologists in health
care. Psychologists who are awarded national registrant
status have achieved the highest educational and
professional standards in health care. Early career
psychologists can accumulate the necessary credentials
during their training so that when they apply for
a license to practice, they also are ready to become
registrants of the National Register. It is the
only independent, credentialing body with a national
level standard for verifying education and training
qualifications, licensing, and ethical standards
with more than 12,000 doctoral level psychologists
in its database. The National Register is relied
upon by the health care industry, state and provincial
licensing boards, and consumers. National Register
also provides this valuable information to consumers
as a free referral service to top quality psychologists
at www.findapsychologist.org.
