WEST VIRGINIA STATE-LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST JOHN C. LINTON, PHD RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

August 10, 2009, Washington, D.C. - The National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology (National Register) Board of Directors today announced the presentation of the Alfred M. Wellner Distinguished Career Psychologist Award to John C. Linton, PhD of Charleston, West Virginia. The award is named for the National Register's first Executive Officer, Alfred M. Wellner, PhD. The Wellner Award is the National Register's highest honor bestowed on a psychologist to commemorate numerous and significant contributions to psychology during a distinguished career.

In her nomination letter, Dr. Barbara Cubic of the Eastern Virginia Medical School, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, aptly summarized Dr. Linton's numerous accomplishments. She wrote:

"John Linton’s career has been devoted to education, mentoring, and his interest in health psychology, ethics and professional affairs. John is a dedicated and enthusiastic psychologist and his efforts related to advocacy for our profession, training of future psychologists, adherence to the ethics and standards of psychological practice, and leadership in designing and implementing psychology based programs in academic health centers is outstanding.”

Dr. Linton has a long record of contributions to the National Register, including his involvement with the National Register Legacy of Excellence DVD series, his service on the National Register Appeals Board and the COPPE Appeals Committee, and his continued support of the National Register mission.

Dr. Linton has been credentialed by the National Register since 1985.
