HAWAII PSYCHOLOGIST RAYMOND FOLEN, PHD, ELECTED TO NATIONAL REGISTER OF HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS IN PSYCHOLOGY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

September 8, 2010, Washington, D.C. – The National Register Board of Directors elected Raymond Folen, PhD, to a four-year term beginning on January 1, 2011. Dr. Folen was elected to the board last year at the June 2009 meeting. Dr. Folen reacted to his election by stating, “It is a great pleasure for me to serve on the Board of Directors.  The National Register has always been on the cutting edge of practice and technology.  I hope to help in articulating the further expansion of psychological practice in primary care settings, in rural and underserved areas, in providing care to Soldiers, Veterans and their Families, and in the use of technology to increase access to care.”

Since 1984, Dr. Folen has worked at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii where he was first the Chief of Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology Service and later became the Chief of the Department of Psychology in 2007. He also serves as the Co-Director of the Virtual Reality Research Laboratory at Pacific Telehealth & Technology HUI in Honolulu. Dr. Folen’s research and professional interests span a wide range of issues including primary care psychology, telehealth, psychopharmacology and biofeedback. Since 1997, Dr. Folen has served on the editorial board of the APA’s publication, Psychological Services. In 2009, he was named the Federal Manager/Supervisor of the Year by the Honolulu-Pacific Federal Executive Board.

Dr. Folen earned his PhD from the University of Hawaii in 1978. Dr. Folen has been credentialed by the National Register since 1979.
