Call for nominations
for psychologist members of the National Register
Board of Directors.
***Posted 12/16/2007***
The Board consists of 11 members, three of whom are representatives of the public and not psychologists. Individuals from diverse geographic locations, specializations, backgrounds, as well as gender and ethnicity currently serve on the National Register Board of Directors. To maintain a Board of Directors representative of our Registrants and the general population, nominees from various groups of diversity are encouraged to apply.
For the psychologist opening(s)
that begin in 2009, we ask that you consider whether
you are interested in making the necessary commitment
to become a participating member of the Board and,
if so, to follow the instructions below. The term
is for four years and begins January 1, 2009.
Psychologist Members of the Board of Directors
For the psychologist positions the
applicant must be a current Registrant. There is
no required minimum number of years of Registrant
status and applications from early career psychologists
are welcome and encouraged. Some desired areas of
expertise include but are not limited to clinical
geropsychology, ethics, diversity, cognitive-behavioral
therapy, international psychology, forensic psychology,
and expertise in emerging practice areas, particularly
prescription privileges. Desired practice settings
include institutional settings (including military
and prisons), integrated health care delivery systems,
academic health centers (including VA), and internship/postdoctoral
training sites. Other areas of expertise will be considered, depending
on how those characteristics enhance the strengths
of the current Board of Directors.
We also seek applicants with experience or expertise in
helping to raise funds for the NR Millennium Fund Awards and credentialing
scholarships for doctoral psychology students (see
http://www.nationalregister.org/student_awards.html)
and early career psychologists (see http://www.nationalregister.org/ECP.html).
For information on the current Board
of Directors, please go to http://www.nationalregister.org/aboutus_board.html
So that you may make an informed decision as to your interest and availability in applying for the Board of Directors, please note that:
- The mission of the National Register of Health
Service Providers in Psychology is to credential
licensed psychologists, promote credentialed psychologists
to consumers, provide distinction and value to its
Registrants, guide psychology students toward credentialing,
and enhance psychologists' contributions to integrated
health care. (For more information on how the National
Register serves the mission go to http://www.nationalregister.org/about_NR.html).
- The primary role of the Board is to set policy
consistent with the purposes of the corporation.
The Board of Directors meets twice a year, usually
in late May and late November. The Board typically
meets Friday and Saturday. Between board meetings,
a great deal of discussion, debate and some decision-making
occurs through email. Each board member serves on
at least one committee. Again, most of that activity
occurs by email and on the phone as needed. As we
are a nonprofit organization, Board members do not
receive a salary or stipend, but expenses (e.g.,
airfare, hotel accommodations, meals) to attend
meetings are reimbursed.
- This is a self-nomination process.
Deadline for Nominations
Please send a cover letter by March
31, 2008, indicating why you think you should
be considered for one of the positions, accompanied
by a current resume. Please send all information by
email to laura@nationalregister.org.
Nominees chosen for recommendation to the Board of
Directors will be interviewed by the Nominating Committee
in April. The National Register Board of Directors
considers the results of the interviews and elects
at the meeting in May 2008.
