Requirements to list Psychopharmacology as an Area of Expertise

Demonstrating Expertise in Psychopharmacology:

Registrants must provide documentation of appropriate education, training, examination, or state credential granting prescriptive authority to list Psychopharmacology as an area of expertise.

Examples of appropriate education and training:

  • a minimum of 300 contact hours of didactic/practical coursework
  • Passage of the Psychopharmacology Examination for Psychologists (PEP) offered by the APA Practice Organization's College of Professional Psychology, or ICPP-PPR National Examination for Psychologists in Psychopharmacology and Related Sciences (PPR)
  • Supervised clinical experience with at least 100 patients
  • Master’s degree in Psychopharmacology, Clinical Psychopharmacology, or Psychiatric Nursing, or completion of DOD Fellowship Training Program

Examples of appropriate documentation include:

  • Transcript reflecting a minimum of 300 contact hours of didactic/practical coursework
  • Exam Score Report reflecting a passing score
  • Proof of Nursing License/DEA Certificate
  • State recognition such as Medical Psychologist (LA) or Conditional Prescription Certificate (NM)
