About Me

I appreciate how difficult it can be to ask a stranger for help.  I believe in the integrity, dignity, and uniqueness of the individual.  Although our own truths provide the answers we need, sometimes we need another’s reflection to find our best selves.  Sometimes we need direction and guidance or alternatives.  A good therapeutic alliance offers the possibility of renewed productivity, remediation of what is most troublesome in one’s life, a healthy attitude, or appreciation of possibilities.

Some presenting concerns are individual issues, while others are best served in couples counseling or family therapy.  Children under the age of eighteen years usually require the support and guidance of parents in treatment.  Sometimes play therapy is used with children age ten years and under.

Rather than using a “ Shotgun” or “one size fits all” approach, my treatment philosophy is tailored to the individual, couple, or family.  The goal of treatment is to achieve one’s desired outcome.  The initial recommendation is the least intrusive approach that will accomplish the goal.

Credentials/Memberships
  • Dr. Dorfman is a Clinical Psychologist with over twenty years experience, fully licensed in PA and NJ.

Fee Information/Office Policy
  • Payment is due at the time of a scheduled appointment.  There is no difference in appointment fees based upon the modality of treatment or how the time is used.  Insurance may be used for the appointment fee.

Health Care Plan Participation

Most insurances will honor appointments as in-network and a few as out-of-network.  In-network EAP or HMO insurance claims must be filed by the therapist and require only a co-payment.  All other claims must be filed by the insured for reimbursement directly to the insured and the entire appointment fee paid at the time of the scheduled appointment.  To discover what services are covered, the insured is advised to call the insurance carrier.

Why Choose a National Register Psychologist?
The National Register is the largest credentialing organization for psychologists. The independent, non-profit organization was created in 1974 with the help of the American Psychological Association and the American Board of Professional Psychology. Today, the National Register is the leading source of information on nationally credentialed psychologists in health care. Psychologists who are awarded national Registrant status have achieved the highest educational and professional standards in health care. It is the only independent, credentialing body with a national level standard for verifying education and training qualifications, licensing, and ethical standards with more than 11,000 doctoral level psychologists in its database.
